CHAPTER 25

I HURT MEGHNA AGAIN

Preparations for the entrance exams were not at all good. I used to study a lot but immediately used to forget everything after I closed the book. Same case with Meghna but she was not interested in studying engineering. She was determined to study Economics honors and there I was stranded in problems of what to study. I had the intension of studying Chemistry honors but somewhere down the line I wanted to study engineering.

I was supposed to go to Siliguri again for my AIEEE exam and would return back just before the time of results. This time I was a bit relaxed because Meghna won’t react in the way she earlier reacted because she herself was to go out of station, to Bangalore after AIEEE. During the time of ISC we hardly met each other but as soon as our ISC exams ended we were back with our dates. We went to Aquatica, watched movies, hung up at South City, etc.

Just three days to go for WBJEE exams and I was there still mugging up the formulas by heart. I had cut off my net connection and deactivated my Facebook profile after that day’s fight with Meghna, so there was no more chance of misunderstanding between us. I used to study the whole day and at night busy in talking to her over the phone.

“Am pretty tensed. Don’t know what’s gonna happen,” I said.

“Don’t worry sweetheart. You have studied a lot so everything will be fine.”

“But preparation is horrible and am forgetting everything.”

“Oh don’t worry about that. It happens. You will be able to recapitulate everything in the exam hall. Trust me.”

“Thanks a lot shona. Love you.”

“Love you loads muahhhh.”

I loved the way she supported me. Even if I screwed up my exams she supported me, she had faith in me that I was a good student and I was capable of doing much better. I needed her support. Without her I would have been nowhere.

Finally, it was the day of exam. Tension was at its peak. I reached the exam centre much before time. Mine and Meghna’s centre was different and I was lucky because if she had been in my room I could have barely concentrated on the exam. All I would have done is to keep looking at her continuously. It really didn’t seem like an exam hall. With walls broken, benches too short for me to sit, I felt suffocated. I wished that those three hours would pass very soon.

Half of the questions of the question paper I did not know, and some I had forgotten though I tried my level best to recapitulate. I could see students around me trying their best to solve sums so that they could get good marks and there was I looking here and there helplessly. I tried to look into the paper of the boy sitting in front of me, hoping to get atleast few answers which would add up to my total, but it was in vain as we had a strict guard who kept an eye on each of the students.
